Good morning everyone, I am so sorry but I stayed longer in Scotland than I intended to as I met my daughter and son-in-law up there and travelled up to the Isle of Skye with them for a few days and I just couldn't resist the offer of travelling the road to the isles. I've picked up a heavy cold along the way but it was all worth it. I have been round the ex-Royal Yacht, managed to haul myself up to the Castle to watch the brilliant military Tattoo and done a whistle-stop tour of all the activities going on at the Edinburgh.
I found the Scottish people I met to be friendly, cheerful and they couldn't do enough for me. Really lovely people and Edinburgh is a beautiful city. I thoroughly recommend Scotland and although the weather turned on us from Friday onwards the rest of the week was wonderful.
I'm just going to eat my soup (it's lunchtime here) and then I will be back to catch up with all your news and posts.

Thanks Rick I appreciate that. I can thoroughly recommend the Isle of Skye to everyone. We only had one day there but it was so beautiful.
I should also mention the Edinburgh Fringe Festival was still going on and there was so much to see and do. I think I could have spent another week there but the money wouldn't have lasted that long.

I'm glad you had such a wonderful vacation, Vicky. If I ever went abroad for a vacation, that would be my first choice of location, Scotland, Ireland, Britain. Would love to see that part of the world with its long and rich history.
And thanks, Vicky, For sharing that video. I thoroughly enjoyed the ceremony displayed by the bands. It was just great.

Thanks Cat and Foxy, the music at the Tattoo was brilliant and the French Army and New Zealand Army put on a really good show too but they all did. It was definitely worth the struggle to get up to the castle and then up to our seats which were in row T - nearly at the back. However that paid off because when the bands started their manouevres we could see them all which you can't when you are at ground level. I was going to post a few pics of our journey to Skye but Fotki is still not working properly. I am beginning to wonder if it's my computer although it's working fine with everything else. I will post tomorrow.

It was a fabulous show by everyone. I love the music of bagpipes and I certainly loved the pomp and pleasure of the bands. I loved the gray plaid kilts that matched the gray paid pants of band members. They were pretty spiffy looking.
Fotki is working now for Cat, but is slow. I reported to them today when I learned you and Cat were having problems.

I forgot you were on vacation, hoping it was a good one! Did you swing by the Blarney Castle and kiss the stone for good luck? (Sorry, I'm ignorant of what castle is where when it comes to English, Scottish, and Irish castles)

The Blarney Castle is in Cork, the Republic of Ireland but yes I have kissed the Blarney stone way back in 1966 and I will never forget it, you have to bend over backwards whilst this old man hangs on to your legs - if ever anyone had a good job it's him. LOL However I was young then, I wouldn't kiss it today thinking of all the probably germs on it. Yuk! I was at Edinburgh Castle, not quite on the battlements but it felt like it.

He is so loving but he is a creature of habit. We have a set walk that we do and sometimes I try and deviate from it - he won't have it, not at any price even though it would mean a longer walk. LOL

The big difference is that Vicky can go to many countries without having to travel long distances. Not so here in North America.

Hello Foxy and friends, I am sorry to have been absent for so long but I have had a tortuous 3 weeks, coming into the 4th week now. Hubby has been very ill, he has had 4 falls and I've had the ambulance paramedics out an equal number of times and been to Casualty at the local hospital twice. On top of that I have had the social worker out, the occupational therapist out, a care worker is coming this morning and a physiotherapist later this coming week. Add to all that the worry, stress and some monumentally sized forms to fill in and the fact my husband is still bedridden and upstairs so I am up and down them all day long and perhaps you can guess why I've been absent.
The problem is his diabetes. He has treated it with almost contempt for years and finally it's caught up with him. He has never restricted his diet in any way, messed around with his insulin - indeed sometimes even forgotten it. Well the diabetes is hitting back. It has attacked the nerve centre in his back and there is one or maybe two nerves which go all the way down the legs and into the feet - and it's those which are making it difficult for him to walk. The instructions that the brain sends to those nerves to move isn't working properly.
The medical name for it is Neuropathy and there are four types and his is the Peripheral Neuropathy. There is no cure but they are hoping with physio and various artefacts in place to help he should be able to get around a little but I'm waiting on further news on that. They are talking stairlifts, orthopaedic bed with a lifting frame etc., etc., etc. The only problem is that such things cost thousands and would finish off our little holiday nest egg we have. So we have had to apply to Social Services - hence the long and complicated forms. I now have to go and get him ready for the carer who is due shortly. More soon. Meanwhile I do hope to be back online later today. Love to you all. xx
