From Hades

Here I sit upon my throne.

This throne of burning fire.

Surrounding me these grotesque forms

compile my empire.

I am Hades.

In this underworld

I reign supreme as King.

Feared by mankind,

such horror is my soul purpose to bring.

So here I sit eternally

amid wailing everywhere.

Crying out as well am I

existing in despair.

Here in utter loneliness

I am exiled within this earth.

By Zeus am I forbade

Mt. Olympus of my birth.

By chance, once in a century

I am allowed to visit home

to then return to this fiery hell

to always be alone.

Hermes comes,

he guides new souls here to me all the time.

We chat but what to do

as Zeus bequeathed this job as mine?

Look what has come to any deity

who has challenged Zeus's power!

Though I despise this role as such a god

before Zeus I always cower.

Love this viewpoint from Hades regretting his past challenge to Zeus. This trip into mythology, this and the Medusa write, come with a great viewpoint. You have given them a human aspect making people think about them differently and for the better. Great writes Michael

Seems appropriate that this is the first poem I come to after being away from this forum for better than a year. Pluto is yo-yoing in and out of Aquarius, and by mid-2024 will be locked in my sign for about 20 years.
