Sitka Bear Orphan Wildflower orphan of Valhalla Sits like Buddha by window Remembering spring berries Gathered on hillsides Where his cub spirit Dawned in an age of innocence In the sunshine of his mother Whose soul still roams in his heart Still grateful for the fresh fruit Served by his keepers But he pines for a childhood long past Into the vapors of heaven Where his Mom is a dancing bear Reflected in his misty eyes Like the blossoming rainbow On a long lost mountainside Where blueberries ripen The Sitka bear refuge center is for bears whose mother or father met their demise often due to humans, hunters, and cars. At such a young age they can't take care of themselves so these people take them in. But growing up in such a place they can't adapt to the wild as they get older. This bear sat at the edge of the refuge looking sad. I could imagine he was remembering his youth when he roamed the forest with his parents.

So achingly sad but a beautiful piece of writing John. The only thing I do like and the only thing about zoos and sanctuaries are that they keep some animals from going into extinction because of stupid humans and their poaching, trophy hunting. Other than that I wish animals could just be free like we are as they too deserve to be instead of in these "prisons" we keep them in. Animals are far smarter than we give them credit for and they have feelings too and I know, know that they miss their loved ones too just as much as we would. It's heartbreaking. Well written my friend, really gets the emotion across to the reader.

Thank you so much, my friend. This place was for orphaned bears. Their parents were killed in car accidents or by hunters when they were cubs so they can't take care of themselves at such a young age. So these people take them in. However, by growing up in such a place they can't adapt to the wild again. This particular bear sat on the edge of the refuge gazing at the other bears. He looked very sad. Indeed he may have been remembering his days of roaming the forest with his mother and father. You are so right that these creatures belong in the forest if they can take care of themselves. The loss the hunters inflict on these bears is a tragedy and you are very right my friend these bears should never ever lose their parents to human cruelty. They need their parents just like we humans do at such a tender age.

❤️ a great representative piece about the bear. Zoos have their place but they do have a sadness about them. I hope this one gets a taste of freedom again.

This is actually a refuge for orphaned bears. These bears lost their Moms and/or Pops usually from human causes such as hunting or car accidents. As cubs they can't take care of themselves so these people take them in for protection. Since they are raised in this environment they can't be released into the wild because they wouldn't be able to adapt. This bear did look very sad like he might have been remembering his long lost home in the forest. Thank you my friend for reading me today. I am always happy when you gift your words upon my work. It feels like I am heard and that is a blessing.

Love that you wrote this from the perspective of a bear who lost his mother at a young age. Really gives something to think about. I am very glad that there are facilities like the Sitka Bear Refuge Center. Well done.

Great thanks Cat, my friend. Indeed this was my first visit to an animal rescue center. The bear was sitting by itself gazing at the other bears. He looked sad and I felt a connection with him on an emotional level. Very glad you enjoyed the bear perspective here. Thank you so much, my friend.
