Chasing ghosts in the moonlight
Memories night after night
Fleeting shadows
Of past battles
My hand in a fist held tight

This reads like the aftermath of trauma when the woman still feels the pain so deeply. You wrote this so incredibly well my friend.

Agree. I relate this with my anger too with people in the past who have taken advantage of me, especially financially. They always say forget and move on, and this is true for healing, but sometimes it just isn't so easy to do, especially late at night, lying in bed unable to sleep. I get this Cat.

Thanks John and Michael. You may or may not know my first husband was very abusive towards me - both physically and emotionally. I finally left him in 1974, but the memories remain. My present husband of almost 44 years whom I met 5 years after my flight is a good and loving man...even when we argue!

Yes. I guess those ghosts will always haunt us from time to time. The past can make you feel as anxious now as it did back then.

Yes Sugar, they could, but as times goes on things change and one has new hopes that help fight down the memories. Memories are part of us, whether we like it or not. They can help us grow stronger or they can destroy us. Best to use them to grow stronger.
