It is worth noting that this haiku isn't as straightforward as it may seem by just a casual read. The poem isn't about guaranteed forgiveness but rather a rose as a stepping stone to forgiveness. And as others elsewhere have noted the rose can be a metaphor for healing or an offering on the way to forgiveness and healing. But the rose is a metaphor that doesn't necessarily denote a flower that is one form of a stepping stone to forgiveness. There are nuances here worth noting.
