First Impression
Please tell me the truth,
now did I see you smile?
For a moment there everything
felt right for a while.
Can we walk?
Can we talk?
Can we share what we know?
Or did I exaggerate
a friendly hello?
Please let me know gently
for I see in your eyes
a building of embarrassment
mixed in with surprise.....
and you are blushing.
Friends are giggling.
Again I have made quite a show.
One would think I would learn
to just let it all go.
Please forgive me for asking
such a beauty as you.
I was silly for thinking
you had felt something too.
It is so deceiving
when we are dreaming
and our hearts live in woe.
For a moment I felt
as I had long ago.
Well I guess I will be going.
I do not know what to say.
This has become really awkward,
an embarrassing day.....
but what is this?
I am tugged back
to see within your eyes
my first impression of your smile
was indeed very wise.

Michael this is a delightful read for me tonight. Tender and filled with the awkwardness of first impressions revealed in their truth. I read this listening to Bach's art of the fugue by Canadian Brass. The perfect background music for your contemplatively inspired poem.
