Madam of the Library
Queen of pentacles sends fiery gaze Across the pages of Ovid’s Amores That takes her into the heart of love Where reside strange desires That stirs her heart in the lonely hours When boys sit reading Henry Miller Whose books she cannot resist but allow In the collection guided by her inner desire But soon lads submit book reports On the words of decadence As scribed by Anais Nin That give her a secret thrill While making her gasp with wonder At what salacious minds are instilled in youth From chapters written by authors Often forbidden in public libraries But found in her school book room Where boys give her much to ponder For summer reading An in flagrante delicto for her imagination That casts a burning path Across the coral pink sands of a Mars While her tresses reflect his scarlet dunes With her bonfire lipstick to incinerate The hemp that binds a lad to innocence

It's kind of a conflicting cycle in a sense with the gambit the whole way around with the symbolic "sexy" librarian, what is and what is not allowed in reading material these days in school, with the hormones raging of the youth within all of the turmoil and trying to keep it all within the accepted "status quo". Something like that anyway. Lots of good books are not allowed anymore because in today's day everyone is insulted by one thing or another. And it's not just with books.

Castle Court Jester, the depth of your comment was excellent. Your observations are right on. Indeed, it is a conflictual situation with wanting to protect the youth and not just with books. Thanks for reading and for the time and profundity of your words. Your observations are apt and timely.

In grad school, we heard the story of a young librarian woman in a public library out in the country who was moved to another location because she read Halloween stories to the children. The parents out there thought she was a witch who used black magic.

I have a friend who is a librarian. In her library, they did an experiment. They removed every single book in the young adult collection that any group or persons had objected to being there. In the end out of the over a hundred books in the collection, they were left with three books.
