BILLY AND BOBBY GREENFROG
Billy and Bobby Greenfrog lived in the pond behind the Sutter place. The two shared a lily pad on the
eastern side of the pond. Billy and Bobby were talking one day. Billy said, “Bobby, I have been thinking of
moving to a lily pad in the center of the pond. They are bigger there and we are getting cramped on this
little pad with all of our stuff.”
Bobby replied, “We sure are Billy but how are we going to move? We collected
all of this stuff when we were already living here. That is a lot of stuff to move.
Especially to the deeper part of the pond.”
“Hmmm….you are right,” said Billy, shifting on the pad. “It is too much for the
two of us alone. Especially with the heavier things like the television and the microwave…..”
“And our beds,” added Bobby, shifting.
“Hey! I know!” Billy said, holding a finger in the air with a smile.
“What?” Bobby asked.
“We will ask our friend frogs for help!”
“Yeah! Yeah!” Bobby replied with excitement. “We have helped them out with
things before, surely they will return the favor!”
“Sure they will,” said Billy. “Especially with the pool table. We will make a party
out of it!”
“Like a moving party,” replied Bobby, catching a fly with his tongue.
So they set to work typing up all of the invitations to the moving party, being sure
to include the food….. Flysalamode, Mothconquesoe, Antsinablanket and drink,
pond water. They invited all of their frog friends and even the Salamanders who usually
were not very friendly at all.
“I do not expect them to come,” Bobby said.
“Probably not,” Billy replied, licking the last of the envelopes and sealing it up.
When Jack Turtlemen finally showed up they gave him the invitations to send out
to everyone. Then they waited. They waited for a long time. All in all about a week
before friends began showing up on the moving day party. They waited a long time
because mail service is very slow in the pond. Especially when your mail carrier is a
turtle such as Jack Turtlemen. But it all worked out fine. Billy and Bobby even decided
to grill up some dragonfly patties once all was done and they were in their new place.
Everyone helped out and it was a lot of work. The frogs and salamanders would
move everything over to the edge of the lily pad and wait for a free beaver. Once
one would come they would move the load onto a beaver’s back and get carried over to
the nice big new lily pad. Then they would move everything onto it and into place. They
worked for days on end to complete the move but before all of them knew it the move
was all done and Billy and Bobby Greenfrog were in their new home. Then it was time
to have some fun! A couple of frog bands played music. Many of the others were taking
turns playing pool and drinking pond water. It was a good time. Bobby came over to
Billy who was grilling the dragonfly and said, “It all worked out okay, huh Billy?”
“It sure did,” Billy said, turning the fly over. “And you know why?” Billy asked
Bobby who was holding a glass of pond water himself.
“Why?” Bobby asked.
“Because we are all friends and we all help each other out,” Billy said.
“Yep,” Bobby replied, clapping his webbed hand on Billy’s back. “Yep. That is
what friends are for.”
