Angel in Mexico
An emaciated woman in a Mexican daze Carries a baby in arms still strong Enough to love this child she bears
Wife’s bodhisattva halo embraces the nativity of a Mesoamerican Madonna holding her baby in a circle of love.
Beatified in luminescence Ascetic body lost to hunger Golden daughter of creation whose son shines Like the gold-leafed pages In her book of divine love His nursery rhyme eyes Are a shanty-town of tears My Spanish doesn’t cover her “Leche, leche” But my wife puts into English This lady’s plea for milk for her infant My beloved’s maternal love eternal
Wife fears men wearing sombreros Would come to steal her soul But her nature When in stress is to nurture. Her smile opens up like the sun Through the clouds My beloved parts with God’s money To nourish the hunger that knows no end Like a heavenly nurse from above She kisses their earthen faces Under the light of a thousand suns

Beautiful story of one who cares for those less fortunate, and shows them love and kindness.

And all a true story that happened with my wife on a walk through Nuevo Laredo. I'll never forget the halo my wife beamed of an angel caring for her sister.

Michael, love your reminding me that she is still here, Every time I hear the song Hey Laura by Christopher Cross I am moved deep to think of her. Very happy you saw the beauty in this poem. And I am sure she is still smiling on me. Thank you so much my friend.
