I regularly, almost daily snack on some rare and exotic to Westerners snacks myself, which are Asian. My most favourite ones are : beef jerky, stinky tofu, Japanese crepes and yakitori (chicken skewers), millet crips. Go to an Asian supermarket to see if there are any. What about you?

Drying of meat as a means of preservation has been done around the world since about 1550, and by American indisna as well.
Is beef jerky an American thing?
Despite roots spreading around the world, beef jerky today is a uniquely American product. It has reached a critical mass of popularity. Some would even argue we are living in a Jerky Renaissance.

i have to say something
it didn't happen since 1550, it happened alot longer then that, the american indians were always doing it....
pemican has been a word i have heard all my life, the settlers actually learnt from them
it was mostly bison meat that they did it with, but that was in the plains....the natives from the south and north west did it with their salmon in order to keep it all winter...
so,
it's actually been done for thousands of years.....
sorry to correct, but....
