Imaginary Friend
Kenny liked playing with imaginary friend.
They always had so much fun though it was all just pretend.
All the things they would do!
The places that they would go!
It was all real for Kenny.
Imaginary friend made it so.
One day they were pirates out on the sea.
Another, soldiers setting prisoners free.
Once superheroes defeating villains,
an evil wizard and king.
Kenny and imaginary friend could do anything!
Kenny once asked imaginary friend what he wanted to do.
Imaginary friend said he wanted to play something new.
Imaginary friend said, “Something crazy!
Something that might even be bad!”
But Kenny said, “No.”
This made imaginary friend sad.
For days imaginary friend could not be found.
Kenny called out while looking but he was nowhere around.
Kenny felt bad, said he was sorry,
that they could play the new game.
The next night it stormed badly when imaginary friend came.
There was a tap, tapping sound on Kenny's bedroom windowpane.
Lightning showed imaginary friend standing out in the rain.
Kenny called, “Go to the door!”
where he let imaginary friend inside.
This was the night Kenny's father died.
It has now been a long time since Kenny's first kill.
The murder of his father that led to many more still.
All because of imaginary friend's crazy, new game
leaving Kenny alone to face all of the blame.
From his cell Kenny yells at imaginary friend.
That his stupid, new game is what brought him to his end.
He yells at imaginary friend to leave him alone!
I suppose we have all had an imaginary friend of our own.
