Post Season...
I've watched jack-o-lanterns after Halloween, Tossed onto the compost heap, The dark soot of burned-out candles, Trailing from pumpkin eyes, Blackening pumpkin lips, Shriveling and rotting, Back into mush, Melting into the Earth, Becoming one with the dirt, That from which they arose.
Even pumpkins of thunder, The giant of noisy gourds, Loud in their season, Yet when it passes they return, Back to the formless underworld, And even wide-eyed children dream of them no more.
Wail pumpkin, Thrash pumpkin, Writhe as you melt, For tomorrow is another season, None of it yours.
Then we give thanks.

This poem has actually made me feel for the poor pumkin. Thank you, Cat. If the Rolling Stones can do Sympathy For The Devil at least I can do it for the pumpkin. Dan

I can see the resemblance as you do, Dip. Sadly, too many, in villages, both large and small, have succumbed to this ravaging pandemic. May they soon have vaccine for all of earth's inhabitants.
