Revolving Door
Doors open and doors close
and then there is that of the revolving door
where we enter and spin,
coming out not knowing who we are anymore.
Such is life that the escalator takes us to the top
while the other brings us back down.
Perhaps time to break that golden rule
and ride one backwards in disobedience
like a circus clown.
Or maybe we should ride the crotchety, old man elevator,
indecisive in which way it really wants to go,
even choosing to get stuck and doing neither
leaving our frustration sure to mount, to grow.
We move up and we move down in life,
sure as night and day.
We watch the ticking clock.
We play the crazy games
and we come home to hopefully
let the stress fade away.
Time to close the doors and shut the world out.
Tomorrow will come and we will do it all again
but for now just maybe we can forget about
that revolving door and its merciless spin.

I echo Cat's feelings completely, Michael. I'm sure most of us have been caught up in that revolving door at sometime in our lives. Very well written.
