Nuevo Laredo
An emaciated woman in a Mexican daze Carries a baby in arms still strong Enough to bear this child she loves My Spanish doesn’t cover her “Leche, leche” But Marsha puts into English This lady’s plea for milk for her infant My beloved parts with God’s money To nourish the hunger which knows no end Marsha transfigures into an angel of mercy With smile beaming As though there is a deity above And she, his emissary on earth She kisses mother and child Haloed in the holy trinity Of Marsha for whom all children are hers And the Mesoamerican Madonna Who cradles the baby Jesus In the manger of her arms

Yes, I recognized her name from a previous poem. I am so sorry you lost her and I wish she was still with you.

Thanks so much, Dan. She was a saint. I've never met another person with her pure compassion. Her love still lives for me and others whose lives she touched.
