Wildfire~
She came to him on the night of a killing frost on a horse named Wildfire, moonlight tangled in her hair.
He awoke to hooves thudding upon the path, the ache of wanting to be inside her, but it is the time of the witch, loneliness howls the wind, cold feet wearing wet leaves, a frozen tear.. she is long gone from this world.
An October-Sleepwalk repeated always round this time of year.
We'll be riding Wildfire...

I have loved the song for years, especially that soft instrumental opening that the radio stations never played. Your lovely write is a sweet tribute to story that has quietly haunted the back of my mind through these passing decades. Thank you for bringing it back to me in such a beautiful, necessarily sorrowful way.

That is a haunting song indeed, Sky, both the poem and the original. I always wondered of the original author's inspiration.

Yes..it is haunting & lingering, I've always liked that part also, and the very end, think it's cut off a bit here, should have found a video that included every note huh.. Thank you Brian for the lovely reply.

I believe I read it came to him in a dream, & also when he was a kid his Grandfather told him an American Indian story of a ghost-horse, so he thinks that might of had an influence. Thanks Dan..

Sky, the sorrowful beauty of your poem coupled with its romance made for a heady brew. You really ran with this. And I am most impressed.
