"How do you like it? Is it alright?" she asks me.
I finish chewing and swallow. "It's great," I say.
We'd been dating for about a month now,
still getting to know each other some but
we'd shared quite a bit.
I knew her father had left her, her mother and little brother
when she was seven and I knew she liked horses.
I knew she had gone to college at UNLV and was now working
as an accountant.
There's more I could tell but you get my drift.
We had shared some things and we were getting to know each other.
What made us tick. What didn't. It was fast but we seemed to fill each other's needs.
I knew the hardest thing she was dealing with now was losing the baby.
That previous relationship had gone terribly wrong but she had decided
to keep the kid and I wanted to be there for her and for the kid too.
Maybe it was another need I felt needed filling in myself.
I had really begun feeling her excitement over the kid with her
but a week ago had changed all that.
"What did you say this was again?" I asked before taking another bite.
She just looked at me. I could tell she was still thinking about the baby.
