She laid her head down heavy with sleep
The day filled with memories to keep
Treasures that were hers now
To keep if age allowed
If only her mind's keep would not seep
Fighting against this forgetfulness
Had now become a daily hindrance
Age is not always kind
It's hard to keep in mind
Treasured memories of tenderness
Sleep this night brought her sweet release
Gone was the aged body she had leased
Her spirit was now free
Death came and paid the fee
Memories forever now in peace

Some might see sadness in this but not me. I think there is a special beauty for the end of life to come in this way. To simply go to bed and go to sleep would be my choice if I could choose. No pain, no vigils, no hospital, no warnings. Just lay yourself down and go to sleep.

I agree. Would be my choice as well. This is a beautiful and spiritual piece. Passing on is a celebration in ways as well. Sure it hurts when someone we love does move on but there is still peace as well. I miss my mother SO much but I wouldn't want for her to be suffering either. Our society focuses only on the what's the word, negative for lack of better word I guess with death. It's a spiritual celebration as well in other societies. i'm talking too much...sorry. Excellent write!

I agree with Foxy and Mike ... I love how your deeply touching poem ends, Cat.

I agree with Warrior Queen and Michael.
The best way to end life. Namaste.

Thank you all. You have all picked up on the point I was trying to make in this poem.

It is how my heart sees death. It is as much a part of life as life it's self. It is sad when it comes too soon before one has experienced life in the different seasons of their life.

Cat this is truly beautiful in its sadness. Yes, peace at the end. That is how I'd like to go. I'm sure many share that feeling.
