I remember holding you on this rock beside the sea. Holding you within my arms as you sat upon my knees.
Then I would let you down and you would run across the sand picking up the seashells. You always thought they were so grand.
Soon mommy would come join us and you would show us your new prize. You would ask us where they came from with bewilderment in your eyes.
We would tell you as you sat with us listening to what we said and then you would return to the beach for more treasure up ahead.
It has been quite some time now since you were that little boy. Time can take those moments but not the memories and joy.
We will always have those warm pictures of you within our hearts. Though you are now in heaven we will never be apart.

Michael, fictional, maybe, but timeless. I remember my parents taking me to the shores of Lake Superior as a child. Major flashbacks here. Mom's been gone 16 years now. Hard to believe. I think you're speaking for more folk than you know here.

Beautiful fiction it is, Mike ... this is a five star, heart-warming poem.

Time can take those moments but not the memories and joy.
Universal Truth for human beings living anywhere in the world. Bows deeply to Michael.

For this poem being fictional, you have hit the nail on the head Michael. You brought back memories of when my son was a little boy. He is now 33, and it was so pleasant to have those memories envoked by your perfectly worded poem.

Michael, you create a magical scene which feels real. The ending had me teary-eyed. You have that quintessential writer's talent of making your poetry feel real. And it is real as an art piece which inspires emotions which are very real. I loved this more than words can say.
