Boing-Boing-Bang!
How I long for the internet of yesteryear, The simplicity and easy read,
The uncomplicated pages and sweet graphics,
The possibility of depth,
Of unbroken concentration.
Today's American web,
It's like NASCAR on methamphetamine,
Fast,
Likely to crash into the crowd,
So highly unstable.
In the UK they remember the better age,
The worth of a long read,
A slow afternoon and a good story.
I think the Ferenghi have invaded Earth,
Flash boom bah,
Boing boing bang,
Click-bait poison,
And I have to ask now,
Do I still have your attention?

Thank you, Dip. It will likely get better over the next few years. About 5 companies are putting up constellations of low Earth orbit high-speed internet satellites to blanket the globe with cheap and fast coverage, beginning this year.

It's a mess eh? Everything has to be so fast! Everyone is in a ridiculous hurry...people need to slow down some...take time to take things in that they are taking for granted. Cool read homey-chi.

That's interesting, Dan. I didn't know about the constellations of low Earth orbit high-speed internet satellites to blanket the globe. I need to try to find some info on that. I live in a rural area where we don't have a big choice of internet service. Satellite is my solution and Hughesnet has pretty much monopolized that source to the net. AT&T has finally come out with wireless internet. I have been trying to gather info on that. Satellite was not that great when I first tried it. My first try was with Wild Blue by AT&T. Total disaster that I got rid of before the 30 day trial period ended. It was fast....so much faster than dial up, but it was down far more than it was up and running.
When it became available, I went to Hughesnet and have been with them ever since. They have improved through the years and I have been tempted to try AT&T Wireless. I think I will check out the ones you have told us about. Thanks for the info.

Your poem portrays my thoughts exactly Dan, and the way you put it says it all!
I used to have high-speed internet before I moved from Toronto 2 1/2 years ago, but now, out here in rural country (which I love), like Foxy, I have internet, but it is by satellite (Bell). There are a few other satellite internet providers that advertise through the fliers, but I have never heard of them and, therefore, reluctant to try them. But if Bell keeps putting up its prices, I just might try them.

Thank you, everyone!
Note, there's a big difference between these new satellite internet companies and the ones like Hughesnet. The existing satellite companies have large satellites in geosynchronous orbit. That means they stay roughly over the same patch of Earth. It also means they're 22,500 miles up! Your internet signal has to go up 22,500 miles to the bird, then back down 22,500 miles to the internet backbone, plus however far it is on the regular ground server hosting the website you're visiting. That means your internet has a built-in 100,000 mile round trip minimum. That's nearly half the distance to the Moon!
By contrast, the new internet satellites will be smaller, and far more numerous. They will orbit about 180 to 250 miles high. That makes the built-in round trip between 660-1,000 miles. That's 1/100th as far.
Plus the radio signal gets weaker as distance increases between the two ends.

I did do some reading on this new way of delivering our internet, Dan. According to my source, this is not too far in the future. They expect to start signing up some customers by 2024. I will be ready to try them as soon as they arrive in my area.

Dan, you had my attention from start to finish. And the reflections after reading left me remembering the old internet. You have a gift with rhythm and thought-provoking at the same time humorous writing. That is the sign of a poet I will always come back to read more of.
