Soup Kitchen Blues
She ladles corn dressing like caviar But just as good after weeks on the street Where peanut butter and jelly are filet mignon Just with a different taste On the road to culinary enlightenment Where ramen noodles become the new chicken soup In the bowl for a Syrian refugee With the shadowy eyes of a ghost Whose spirit is not broken By a past which is too real to be a nightmare But too dreamlike to haunt every waking hour In a land of new fears where the cold as Ice agents wait like disconsolate ghosts from Appomattox who starved in the siege of Vicksburg with corpses stacked like bread

Thank you so much Foxy. The original version of this had some tangents. Now that I've made it more focused it works a lot better. Glad you enjoyed my friend. ;-)

Refugees coming here are not treated well as you have eloquently pointed out ... the Statue of Liberty is embarrassed and saddened.

Thank you, Rick. We have come upon some very sad days for lady liberty. We can only hope for a restoration of love for the huddled masses yearning to breathe freedom again.

In this day and age, officials pour bleach in the soup. Sad.

Dan, these are dark days for our republic. You are right. Hopefully, the American eagle will straighten up and fly right soon.
