on remembrance day
let us remember
to thank them
for all that they have done
for the freedom that they have
given us
young men, 100 years ago
left their country
their family
to fight in a far off land
they came home, the lucky ones
perhaps wounded
and they would suffer
for all time
but yet, that
was their duty
to bring us the freedom
that we so covet
on remembrance day
let us thank them
for fighting in the trenches
perhaps no one to keep
them company
far from home
under a hilly dome
they would come
for protection
for vindication
on remembrance day
let us thank them
for giving us freedom
to voice our opinions
without persecution
on a field in flanders
as we wear the poppy red
their crosses lie in wait
they are still in our hearts
on remembrance day
let us thank them
for bringing us luck, and then
let us hope that we will
not have to go through this
ever again,
they gave us so much
to gain
in the rain, in the snow
this is why
on remembrance day
let us say thank you
for all that you have given us
as another war came, and went
and another and another
100 years ago, now
they have not died in vein
i need to update this a bit, but still susan

We owe them so much, Susan. We can never repay them, but can always remember and thank them, not just on special days but every day of our lives. Your poem does much to remember these valiant warriors. It is beautiful.

awesome read Definitely. I thank them every day when I see someone in the military. What makes me sad is that our country does not do anywhere near enough for what they have done for us. Government I should say. Love this.
