Roadside Assistance
Northern slope of green hills
Where Louisiana grass
Teeters on the brink of infinity
Of an Arkansas for lost sheep
Whose blue sky summer
Reveals a tortoise crossing the road
With a slow crawl in the path of cars
My wildflower lass
Spots our turtle in peril
And we become good Samaritans
I lift the Frisbee-sized plodder
And carry him to the other shore
In a safe passage to his Promised Land

Indeed this was based on a trip my former wife and I took to Arkansas. We were crossing the Louisiana and Arkansas border when we spotted a huge tortoise crossing the road. I decided to help it cross so it wouldn't get run over. So I parked and carried it to the other side.

Thanks so much, Dan. It was a spontaneous impulse to help the turtle. I agree it is a good way to live in compassion for all God's creatures great and small. Marsha, my former wife was there to encourage me. That was the kind of person she was.
