Grown-up Camp Fire Girl
Those girl’s only campouts Left her in puppy love withdrawal Of boyfriend blues But now love notes need not be saved For future reading Because paper airplane whispers Are near as the air they breathe
Her woodsy smile comes naturally in a place where her laughter echoes the babbling brook Like a girl scout saving her cookie sales In a piggy bank of pennies for love To be spent on this summer’s day When childhood is far away

Thanks, Michael. Glad you liked Rick. This was about my late wife and I during happier times camping out in our favorite place in North Louisiana. John

I always wanted a "campfire girl." Life didn't work out like that, but there are other joys that have come along. I love the way you wrote this. It hearkens back to an earlier era, and still has depth and complexity. You were lucky to have that time, John.

She was my campfire girl. Anytime she'd be more than eager to drive with me to a far away camping spot, pitch a tent, and camp out. And she loved to hike and canoe with me. She loved nature as much as I did even though she was born and raised in New York City. She once told me that when she was young she took a walk all the way from the lower east side, where she lived, to the cloisters at the northern tip of Manhattan. The whole way she dreamed of living in Kansas among the wheat fields. Love how you described this poem my friend Great to know it hearkens back to an earlier era and still has depth and complexity. I was a truly lucky man.
