Infernal...
I sit with a fine cigar, The Wind rustles Through the palm fronds, Waving, Hot, Heat dwindling in the evening.
Tonight I will see the glow in the Hills, And know the battle continues, Started by crazy, Fueled by hot world.
Cleansing the past, Involuntary Ash, Evil red glow, Wicked and deadly, Speeding fright.
Do not make light of the plight, Infernal words, Cruelty at the fingertips of monsters.

Your write reminds me of Billy Joel's song, "We Didn't Start the Fire."
We the blame backwards to what came before, never owning up to our major part in destruction. Mother Earth rebels against the injustices we have inflicted on her. We are many, she is one, yet it's a fight that we cannot win. We are no doubt the monsters and she is a monster slayer. When she's had enough of her ungrateful children, then the past will be truly be cleansed and it will be more than the fingertips of the monsters that get burned.

Very intense writing, especially your all too true final line Dan. Rick, thank you. I live eight miles from the now 19,000+ acre Holy fire (should be holy hell) which is endangering two towns North of me. We're in the middle of a large town here and very unlikely to deal with more than smoke. We have friends just out of the edges of the evacuation zone. The smoke is bad enough. When it blows this way the entire town of 100k gets full of it and you have to stay indoors. This one is personal. Dan

Brian, I totally agree, and thank you. I've published an environmental blog - mostly just an aggregation of enviro-news from around the web - since 2002. There are hopeful stories, but those stories need a lot more people throwing their weight behind them in stead of blocking their path. I think people can't connect with the concept precisely because of the scale. Once it starts personally impacting them, it becomes another matter. As of yesterday, our firefighters 8n California were battling 15 fires. The Carr fire 7 hours North of us has burned over 300k acres. Smoke from the fires has reached New York. Dan

It is just unreal, the size this huge fire has grown to. My prayers are with all those who live in its fiery path and the fire fighters who risk their lives to bring it under control. Great writing, Dan.
