Squeezing Time Out Of A Clockwork Lemon...
I live in a tight little universe of words, My grip on moments of writing impelled, Compressed by the numerolgy, Soulless beeping numbers of the no-longer ticking, Clocks that wind up being an anachronism.
I own one or five of those, By choice.
If time were an orange, Ray Bradbury could rejoice, Cut it in ever-smaller wedges, Knowing it was sweet.
Instead, Time is a lemon my friends, Fertilized in the bowels of corporate crapitalism, Sour and tart enough to wash windows, An acid-etched thimble of life-juice.
Still I write, Of seeds and sun and ancient things, There in the juice and pulp of a quick-drying moment.
Perhaps this is why an alarm does what it does, Makes me pucker and squint.

Nice, Dan. It is just as much fun to read the second time around.

Dan this was a creative delight! You capture the modern life of our technocracy with words which are originally jazzy and a wonder to behold.

Thank you, John. I am a creature of the "bridge generation," equally at home in either the digital or paper worlds. There will only be a short time longer that we exist. I try to capture the comparison for posterity, but I feel much is being lost.

We flicker from the past to the present. The past spirals ever further away while the present slips into the future. A lemon, yes, and the juices are indeed drying to invisibility. At least there is a bit of sweetness in with the bitter. Otherwise what is it all worth? A write with a layer or two needing ponderance. Well penned Dan.

Phoenix, thank you. There's a lot both personal and general behind this write. I am chasing my own tail trying to keep up with the goings on in my life, even as technology fills every second with activity to the brim. It's a joy for me to get time on an active poetry board like this, and a throwback to the early days of my being a poet. All of that compressed into a lemon pip full of memories...
