Castles In Time
Castles, stone monsters that once protected The Rhine from enemies now unseen Lie in ruin now offering only Memories of long past glory Crumbling walls and stairways that Lead to nowhere and the great halls That were once filled with the activities Of a thriving community where soldiers Boasted of battles fought and victories won While feasting on pheasant and fine wines Merchants peddling their wares and Damsels sharing their hopes and secret dreams Now just an empty shell where Tourists gather for an afternoons fantasy Dreaming dreams of merriment, conquest, and glory While the castles silently stand guard in time

That really conjures up visions of a period in time that I love. I can see majesty of the castle, the brave and fearless warriors and the fair maidens who seek their company. 'Tis a magical vision, one that I remember. You see, I think I lived there in a previous life.

Thanks Foxy. We visited many castles in Germany when we were last stationed there. Many have been restored to their former glory. This poem was inspired by Frankenstein Castle near the city of Darmstadt.

Your fabulous poem evokes memories of a former glorious period of time, Bear; I liked reading about the Frankenstein Castle, too.

Your writing makes me want to go and explore those castles myself and envision those thoughts of those who once lived there.

Don, the scene you paint so eloquently made me dream of ancient times. Ah, to go back in time to that elegant age and see for myself what you describe so perfectly. You put the magic in my afternoon.

It was another time, it was another way of life. What remains are the memories in what still stands, what brushes have canvased and what writings like this beauty keep alive for us all.

The way you take these old constructs and imagine the people who lived there makes for a vivid reading experience. There is magic in your words my friend. John
