Germany
A love note from the states Express mail to Germany Where a soldier in the arms of romance On a mattress of tears Reads the plea of his belle Before a breakfast of silence When she needs his voice To breathe their marriage Back into their personal ad That brought them together On newsprint alley Followed by coffee sighs But he is stationed on the ruins Of a front not so cold As the bed, she sleeps on Made warm by the prospect Of a Stuttgart morning Where an army wife can teach German children The elementary notions of peace

So sad when lovers are separated by distance.

Indeed she pines for her husband who is stationed in modern-day Germany long after the end of the cold war. Yet somehow I have a feeling their marriage will survive this separation. And who know but that she will be allowed to live with him in Germany until his tour of duty is over much as my mother stayed with my father on his tour of duty in Turkey.

A truly lovely write and read for us. You have always had a special, unique way with your work of really knowing how to get at the reader's emotions. Always very deep and rich are your words, it's like watching television.

Michael, love that comparison like television. And your soulful read of my poem brings me a deep river of joy. Much appreciated my friend.

I spent two three year tours of duty in Germany. I absolutely love the Bavarian alps. I wrote many love letters to my fiancée/wife in the almost two years we were separated before our reunion and marriage.
