We all live in shells.
In time some of us come out of these shells
when they do not fit us anymore.
Others stay in their shells contentedly
until their time to come out of them arrives.
When we come out of our shells we expose ourselves
to the predators.
We are vulnerable, scampering around in search of a new home.
New armor.
Protection.
Eventually we come across a more fitting shell for ourselves.
Sometimes these shells are empty and we move immediately in.
Other times the new found shell is already occupied.
We have to look for another, again vulnerable even longer
to all of the dangers around,
those predators just waiting,
drooling to sink their teeth into our flesh and souls.
With a little luck that new shell comes along unoccupied.
Other times we do not find that shell or else we simply do not make it to it and we die.
That time of coming out, of growing does not come along.
Still, we have to risk coming out.
We have to expose ourselves.
Take chances.
And even if we do survive the danger
most of us find another shell to live in.
At least to some degree.
It is, after all, only nature.
