Hushed in the fear prising us apart,
as a wall gets built between our worlds.
We lived our lives reassured in a future together,
now the bitter taste of a loss lingers.
Tormented in the unwanted awareness
given coldly in a sterile clinic.
White coats laying out fast facts
that you have no time to digest.
Left wandering corridors
in a nonsensical manner.
Getting home deliberating
over what words are needed
to explain the unimaginable
to your family and friends.
Questions are asked but you
don’t have answers.
There are no set plans,
one day at a time, juggling
appointments for now until
who knows when. While your
own plans get thrown in
the two hard basket that’s
been set aside.
