Bad News Overcome Redoubt for oracular sorrow Where night settles On her shoulders like a blanket In mountain park village for lost lambs Phone call to clinic brings Even deeper sadness Spot on her lung A hole so deep her shade Turns frown of a lost future I guide her heart still pulsing With dreams To sheep-feeding corral She emerges from mortal fear Into a vision of life Encompassing all creatures Great and small Goats climb on her Drinking from milk bottle Held in hands bearing sustenance For thirst that feeds her joy as well On a journey not finished But continued among the stars

So sad, but loving.

Thank you so much Cat. This is a memory I finally made into poetry. She always found her center and joy through nurturing, even in her darkest hour.

A horrible diesease that breaks many hearts takes another one. Though clearly meant for one, this undoubtedly touches many.

Brian, much gratitude for your understanding of how this reflects the losses of many. Indeed I appreciate your broadening my meaning to include all who have lost through this illness. I had not considered that before but you truly illuminate this for me.

I read this earlier, I didn’t know how to respond. Neil has several spots on his lungs, so this hit hard.

I feel for you so much my friend. I know it is hard to face. My wife had a chance of getting better. She was given a new med that only attacked cancer cells not healthy ones and she was improving every month. Then she chose to stop the med. She believed in natural healing. So your husband may have a chance by working with his doctors. But I know what you are going through my friend. It is one of the hardest things to go through in life.

John, Neil is not sick yet, he gets a little more tired than usual, but nothing concerning. The problem Neil has he can't have treatment at the moment, they have found a condition with his blood that needs to be sorted first. The treatments make him very sick because of this blood condition. So he is waiting to see a haematologist, at the moment specialists are hard to get in to see. Fingers crossed this appointment happens soon. I hate the waiting. I think Neil is going to call the hospital to see if the appointment has been made, he is just as frustrated.

I feel for you both. Waiting for doctors can be frustrating indeed. But I am sure he is in the care of professionals with expertise. I am glad Neil isn't sick. Hoping he gets through fine. I just heard a podcast interview with a woman from Venezuela who was given a week to live as a teenager in her country. But she got treated in America at St. Judes and made it. She was 13 when she had cancer. And now she is married in her thirties. Her story was inspiring a testament to the fact that many overcome cancer and go on to live normal lives. She lives in Memphis now, her new home.
