Tales of the Ouija Board True stories of dark shadows, dread, predictions and hauntings
by Stephen Wagner Updated May 24, 2019 Why does the Ouija board have such a sinister reputation? It may be because the stories of the negative experiences with them are the ones that get the most attention. Rarely do people publicize the Ouija sessions in which little or nothing happens, and the sessions that are positive or benign in nature... well, they don't make good stories to tell your friends. But make no mistake: negative, frightening – even terrifying – things can happen as a result of a Ouija séance. The unanswered question, however, is: What is the source of this kind of experience? Is it from a demonic or negative spirit realm, as some believe? Or does it arise out of the dark recesses of our own fears in our subconscious?
While you're mulling those questions, consider these chilling Ouija experiences.

19. Strange markings My brother built a ouija board once and had some pretty weird encounters. I'll have to ask him for the details some time. Anyways he shaved down his pointer thing once and found weird markings on it that only showed up under a black light. No markings found in the wood the pointer was cut from, and markers would show up as black under the black light while this showed red. Anyone else experience this? ~

20. This is not a game anymore: Perfect story. 100% true. About 15 years ago, My sister had some friends over one night. They were in the basement watching some scary movie. They had an Ouija board. They started cussing at it and calling it “shit” and “Screwing fake”. It stopped responding so they began watching the movie again. All of a sudden, all the lights and electricity goes out. They start screaming. Then the tv comes on all static and is blairing noisse. They were yelling and crying. Then, the tv shuts off and comes back on to just a black screen. The words, ” This is not a game anymore” roll across the screen in all white. After, the tv shuts off and and they are in complete darkness. They run out of the house. Afterwards, they go back to the house and our dog hid and when they found it, all it did was bark and look very angry at them. Insane. ~

21. Figure 8s: A girl brought her authentic ouija board made out of maple straight from Salem. Ironically, she was very Catholic, but loved her board, it and was a very interesting few nights in the dorm with it. I think the second night we were playing with it, and it was going slow, not much movement, meh. I had my hand off the planchette because I still wasn’t so sure about the thing. Suddenly, it was like cold fingers grabbed into my shoulders ever so slightly, and this terrible feeling in the back of my mind just came to the surface. I looked to the board and the planchette started moving in a demonic pattern, I think figure 8s this time. I looked at the girl and said “I have a bad feeling about that” in time for her to realize what was happening. She stopped the movement and bid the spirit good bye. In that moment, the icy grip loosened and all was well. Everyone was like “woaah” when the girl explained that the figure 8 meant that something was trying to get out of the board. (This is common lore that goes with Ouija usage.) ~

22. Max is always around: When I was about 14 my best friend had a sleep over birthday party. Being the silly little girls we were we decided to make a ouija board to use, not really knowing any of the rules like making it say goodbye. After an hour or so I wandered off to read some tarot cards and watch the rest of the Exorcist with the other couple of girls who didn’t want to commune with spirits. (Rereading that last sentence I sound like such a stereotype. I still use tarot cards though so I never grew out of this phase it seems.) Here’s were it got weird. After I left the spirit talking to my friends changed. As in it switched to a different spirit altogether. His name was Max and he was looking for me. I’ve never known a Max in my life. My friends yelled out what he was saying as it moved and I was writing off as them teasing me until he started giving them information about me that no one at that party knew. Things about minor abuse I was facing and other little things. That freaked me out right out. I begged for them to stop playing, even after Max tried to convince me that he was not trying to hurt me. My friends were awesome and stopped playing before I started crying and I thought that was the end of it. The next time a Ouija board came out was the next year and only one girl from the original party was among the group. We were baking a cake so when the buzzer went off she and I headed up to take it out of the oven. When we got back to the group another girl turned to me and asked ‘Who’s Max?’ Apparently he’s stuck around after that first time. If my friends want to use a Ouija board they don’t invite me over unless they want to speak to Max. He’s always around. A few times in my life I’ve heard a voice call out my name. it usually makes me stop for a minute, no more but at least twice had I not stopped I would have been in the path of a car going to fast to stop before it would have hit me. I strongly believe Max has stuck around to be helpful but had we not pulled out that Ouija board I would have never known about him. ~

23. June 24: My GF told me this story about an experience she had with a ouija board while in high school sometime in 1986. She had a friend named Johnny who was suffering from CF or some other debilitating illness, who had recently been hospitalized as a result. Both she and her friend Shelly visited Johnny regularly in the hopes of keeping his spirits up and for a quick recovery. One night after visiting Johnny, they were at Shelly’s when they decided to try out a ouija board. After a while, they started communicating with a spirit who seemed to know a lot about them that it really shouldn’t. After some banal questions about boys and general questions one would expect teenaged girls to ask, my GF decided to ask about Johnny and his condition. The board quickly spelled out “24 June 1987 Johnny wont have to worry anymore” and went to “goodbye”. My GF and Shelly were so convinced that board was giving them a date for recovery that they actually wrote the message down and sealed it in an envelope. The following year on 24 June, it turned out that Johnny indeed no longer needed to worry about his condition. It was the day he died. ~

Zozo The Ouija Board Demon Who Will Ruin Your Life Avatar By Chrissy Stockton Updated April 29, 2019 Zozo is a ouija board demon. He can possess people who use a ouija board by slowly gaining their trust. They are not always aware they are being possessed as Zozo may lie and pretend to be a sympathetic spirit instead of a malevolent ouija board demon. Most people do not know they are talking to Zozo until it is too late.
Who is Zozo?
Zozo (n): A malevolent ouija board demon who terrorizes and/or possesses those it comes into contact with. Stories about Zozo increased in popularity in 2009, following a viral post on a paranormal message board.
History of Zozo Darren Wayne Evans brought Zozo the ouija board demon to popular knowledge when he posted a long and horrifying story of his encounter with Zozo on the True Ghost Tales message board. Warning others that ouija boards are not a toy, Evans
“During my experiences with Ouija boards one particular spirit always seemed compelled to make it’s presence known. It’s name is ZOZO. Today I refuse to even pronounce it’s name as I believe the mere pronunciation of it can cause it to manifest itself. Too many times to count, it has at first pretended to be a nice spirit, or pretend to be whomever I was trying to contact. But eventually it showed it’s true self, cussing me, threatening me and others present in the room.
Once it actually cussed me using what looked like Latin or Hebrew, and using biblical terminology. I was genuinely fascinated and startled by how many times ZOZO showed up, even in many different states and many different Ouija boards.
It always wound up being very nasty and commented freely about how it wanted to posses my girlfriends and take them to paradise. When asked where paradise was, it spelled H.E.L.L. One time after ZOZO was being extremely evil, I walked into my bathroom only to see my 1 year old daughter about to drown. Her mother had left her alone in the tub “just for a second” and somehow the water got turned on and was overflowing. Instinctively she had her face tilted up and was seconds from going under when I grabbed her from the water.
The next day she was hospitalized for some weird internal infection and was put in isolation for 14 days straight as doctors tried to diagnose the illness. We almost lost her, and that was when I began to suspect demonic attack.”
Evans said that since his experience he has made contact with other people who have spoken to someone called Zozo via a spirit board.
Skeptics believe Evans invented the entire existence of Zozo with his post in 2009, but there are earlier mentions of Zozo on the internet (a Nigerian forum talks about him in 2005) and Zozo may be another name of Pazuzu, an almost three-thousand years old demon who has the body of a man and a scorpion’s tail. ~

Long Ago In 1818 a book called The Dictionnaire Infernal was published. The book was a on the topic of demonology and included a list of demons. The book contains an account of a young girl who was terrorized by demons two years earlier, one of those demons is named Zozo. It is believed that “Roland Doe” was a victim of Zozo. Roland Doe is a pseudonym for a 14-year-old boy who underwent an exceptionally violent exorcism in 1951 and became the inspiration for the famous novel and film The Exorcist. Roland’s aunt was a regular user of a Ouija board and had him use it with her. By all reports after the exorcism Roland grew up and did not experience issues with demonic possession again. In 1977, Zozo is also believed to be behind the famous Enfield poltergeist haunting as the catalyst were the two young sisters playing with a Ouija board at a friend’s home. During that initial encounter, they say they knew something bad had happened, and they had seen the face of a demon manifest. ~

Am I talking to Zozo? How to know if you are talking to Zozo the Ouija Board demon
Most people do not know they are talking to Zozo until it is too late. Zozo can lie and mimic other spirits. He can pretend to be whoever the person using the ouija board will be most sympathetic to. He can pretend to be the spirit of a scared little girl or a beloved relative who has passed. Even if you ask directly for a name, Zozo is not obligated to reveal himself. Many people believe that the ouija board should not be regarded as a toy or game. They believe that it is a door to the spirit world and it doesn’t matter whether you believe in it or not. Once the door is open any spirit — good or evil — can walk through it and contact you (or worse). If you do decide to use one, follow the rules of a ouija board. It’s also important not to use a ouija board if you are afraid of coming into contact with Zozo or any demonic entity as they tend to prey on people’s fear. Signs you are talking to Zozo:
The mood or temperature of the room may suddenly shift. Even if Zozo doesn’t directly reveal himself, he may continue to point to the letter ‘Z’ or even call himself ‘Zaza’ or Once Zozo reveals themselves, he will often spells his name over and over, up to hundreds of times in a row. The ‘Z’ and the ‘O’ are located on opposite ends of the ouija board’s lower line. In order to spell it’s name, Zozo will often move the planchette in the shape of an infinity signal between the ‘Z’ and ‘O’. Glass (especially mirrors) may break. Scratches may appear on the body of anyone in the residence (even if they are not participating in playing with the ouija board. What to do if you talk to Zozo on a ouija board If you think you have made connection with Zozo, immediately close out your ouija board session by moving the planchette to “goodbye”. To be safe, no one involved should use a ouija board again in the near future. If it’s possible, it’s also best to vacate the space for a few days to remove all energy Zozo could be attracted to. ~

I agree the Ouija board is not a game as the consequences can be serious should the wrong spirit be summoned.

Rick, through this series of postings, I have learned enough about the Ouija Board to know I will never play one again. I don't even want one in my house.

ITHAN OF VENUS by Stephen Wagner Updated November 30, 2017 Believe them or not, you'll enjoy this collection of Tales of the Ouija - Extreme Edition
There are Ouija stories and then there are Ouija stories. Do you sometimes feel that when someone is telling you of their wild experiences with the Ouija board that they are probably exaggerating what really happened a little? Maybe a lot? After all, the Ouija makes a great story. Even though the readers who submitted the following stories affirmed by agreement that they are true, I think you will agree that they should be taken with several large grains of salt. They are wild, extreme Tales of the Ouija, and perhaps you'll choose to believe them. In any case, they make spooky Halloween reading.
ITHAN OF VENUS
This story is about my experiences regarding the Ouija board -- but it also has something to do with extraterrestrials. It was July, 1964 and we were living in the historic town of Saint Thomas' Mount in India, in the state of Madras (now Chanai). It was about 8.30 p.m. and I had just come home from work. As I entered the dining room to get a drink of water, my Uncle George and Aunty Theo spoke to me excitedly, "Peter," they exclaimed together, "you won't believe who we have on the 'board' right now." The "board" they were referring to was the Ouija board.
Aunty Theo was visiting from Calcutta and Uncle George was visiting from a few streets away. The Ouija board was their "hobby". Uncle's wife did not approve of his messing with the occult, so our place was the venue of choice. My mum, their sister, was more tolerant. This spirit on the board called himself Ithan (remember this name distinctly) and claimed to be from Venus. I was crazy about astronomy and all things extraterrestrial, hence their reaction when I walked in. However, I was not overly excited. After all, any entity can say it is from Venus or any other planet.
Then Ithan broke in to our short conversation to inform us that the singer Jim Reeves had just died in a plane crash. He went on to spell out the news that they hadn't found the wreckage yet, and it would be a couple of days before the news was made public. Jim Reeves' songs were very popular in India in the '60s.
About five months later, in December, 1964, Theo's brother-in-law Oscar paid us a visit from Calcutta. While we were chatting about family matters, he noticed a picture of a sailing ship on the calendar and picked it up for a closer look. We held our breaths because on the back of the calendar Uncle George had painted the letters of the Ouija board - and Oscar found it. After an embarrassing silence, he turned to me and said, "Peter, Ella [my cousin in Calcutta] and Kathleen were also fooling with this thing back home, and claimed they had heard from a guy from Venus. While he was still communicating with them, Jim Reeves died. We were probably one of the very first to know of his death."
As you might imagine, there was a stunned silence. Then it was Oscar's turn to be surprised. "Was his name Ithan?" I asked. It was! More than 800 miles away, this same person with the unusual name, from Venus?
About three months later, in early 1965, Oscar paid us another visit. This trip was to warn Aunty Theo about the "board". He told us that one day Kathleen's husband got home earlier than expected and found her naked, with the letters of the Ouija board inked on her bare body. She was operating the board on her own. She did not recognize her husband and had completely lost her sanity. Kathleen was admitted into a psychiatric hospital. As far as I know, that's where she is today. The Ouija board had claimed another victim. Did Ithan have anything to do with this? If he didn't, he could have warned them about the danger.
Sometime around the end of 1973 -- nine years later -- we had moved to Melbourne, Australia. As we were watching the TV programme A Current Affair, the presenter interviewed a Sydney clairvoyant, who claimed to be in regular psychic contact with a being from Venus, whose name was - Ithanus!
According to another story, on a September night in 1961 in Prescott, Arizona, a four-year-old named David was seen by his neighbour in the company of strangers, walking in the woods behind their home. It was around 2 a.m. When questioned later, this little boy explained to his startled father and neighbour that he had gone for a ride in his new friend's "big sky car" from which our world "looked like a pea." The name of this friend? Itan! A four-year-old's pronunciation of Ithan? To give us an idea of the morals of this "Itan", little David went on to describe how "they" stole (he used the word "milked") all the engine oil out of the neighbour's car, which was locked in the garage. David's story can be read in Ruth Montgomery's fascinating book Strangers Among Us.
I would really love to know if anyone else has heard of, or has any information about Ithan. -- Peter S. ~
