I thought I might put a few bits and pieces here over the next couple of days. It's a huge anniversary over here and I am sure it is in the U.S. too. All the years of peace (well more or less, at least where Europe is concerned) we owe to all those young men, American, Canadian, British and Free French not to mention Polish troops who took part and in a lot of cases gave their lives for it. Today I thought I would publish a page of 40 photographs from my paper the Daily Telegraph. For all those youngsters who shrug their shoulders and say it was a long time ago I only wish they could stand where I've stood in those huge graveyards in Normandy and seen at first hand the price paid.
Edited to change website. Sorry about that.

I tend to agree with the Queen - there was something special about that generation in every country. Somehow having looked at all the protesters yesterday (and a right motley crew they were) I don't see that amount of self-sacrifice and/or effort from today's youth.

I saw that Canadian man do his "jump" yesterday I think it was Susan, my son-in-law is just over 50 and he would jump again. He is hoping to go to Arnhem later this year and take part in a jump there. There are lots of Canadians over here and they are ferrying over to Normandy tomorrow to celebrate the actual day. Lots of Americans, Poles, French and even Germans over here too.

That was such a memorable time, Vicky. Our countries who fought together were joined as brothers forevermore. It does not matter where the president of my country goes or how he behaves or misbehaves around the world, it will never change the patriotism, the honor and the love I have for the people who were and have remained staunch allies. More than that, we are friends. Love you, my dear friend.

Yes, Milania is an attractive woman, but that verteran stole the show. In my book, he is a brave and fearless warrior. He is a hero.

Love you all too, I was pleased to see so many vets in their 90s making the effort to reach France yesterday from the U.S.A., Canada, Poland, oh everywhere it was wonderful and a fitting swansong for them all to get together perhaps for the last time. I still think there was something extra special about that generation - they just did what they had to do and most were conscripts. It was good to see so many Canadians there too because every single one of them were volunteers and they punched well above their weight everywhere they went. There was even some Germans there which again is great.

The 96 year old one who mde that comemorative jump was....is....and shall always be....a hero. I was happy he jumped in tandem with another younger man tto be sure he stayed safe. I was so proud....of him....and for him.
