Backyard Angel
Shades of green darken with dusk Deep forest colors linger in twilight Trembling leaves in the night breeze Hang on to falling light
With curved back fairy queen hovers Over the lush orange tree She gazes quietly Evening sounds gather Hose held lovingly Sprinkles holy water on thirsty roots
Earthen circle girdles garden Weeds sprout like errant children Her collard greens rise in noble profusion Succulent leaves, her labor of love
Her quiet beauty haunts my dreams And echoes through constellations My solitary spirit remembers ancient melodies Our secret language

Such inspired, enchanting imagery John; a remarkable fairy queen she is. You closed with my favorite stanza:
"Her quiet beauty haunts my dreams And echoes through constellations My solitary spirit remembers ancient melodies Our secret language"

Much gratitude my friend, This was about my former wife tending her garden in the backyard of the house we lived in. We had a huge backyard with lots of trees and we planted orange trees. She took joy in watering her vegetables back there. It is a dear memory of her for me.

John, you are the master of Voyeur's Delight. You paint a scene with words in a very photo-realistic manner. Not to mention that touch of romantic magic. Way to go.

Thank you so much SKy. When I think of her it is quiet moments like this which stand out in my memory. Your words are greatly appreciated.
Much thank Dan. Love that word photorealistic. Indeed my poetry is observations in word painting. They are stories told in imagery. Thank you so much, my friend.

Thank you so much, Michael. Others have observed that my poetic portraits immortalize the people they are about. These poems are my way of remembering her.
