Ellis Island of the Mind
My wife was the bride of a thousand woes who wore her blouse for modest memories that gathered under cotton clouds of smoke and tears. Her body was a diary written in sanguine ink to be legible for the blind who read the Braille of her heart where the broken thorns of her past are embedded in her soul forever. Her immigrant eyes dreamed in tears of her bubbie who told her about tea houses in the neighborhood called Little Russia on the banks of the Hudson River where samovars competed with the latest news on the 1907 Tiflis bank robbery by an upstart group known as the Bolsheviks among them Lenin and Stalin whose names were of little consequence.

Thank you so much Foxy. You gave me a great gift. This poem is the introduction to my book. The original. intro didn't connect the image description to the contents of the book well. But most of the stories were inspired by wife. Now, with the idea of making the description about my wife the intro connects the stories to the image very well. I thank you from the heart my dear friend.

That's wonderful, John. Rick and I had an incredible connection in which we inspired each other. He inspired my tags, and my tags inspired his poetry. We just kind of fed off of each other. I could never tell you, or anyone, how much I miss him. He was such a great guy.

How you and Rick developed such synchrony is amazing. When kindred spirits meet chemistry occurs. Clearly, you and Rick had that together. You have influenced my own writing in many ways. One is that I have shifted from writing racy prose and to more emotional love stories. And my writing is much stronger for it. This transformation combines mature love with nature and romance. And I have you to thank for it. When I write I think to myself would Foxy like this? And this consideration works magic.

That is fantastic, John, and highly complimentary. Thank you for that. I'm glad you and Rick were such great friends. To know Rick was to love him. It is still hard, sometimes, to believe he is gone.

Rick was sunshine on many dark days for me. And yes you have helped me to dig deeper in my writing. I am most grateful to you for that and just being here.

A most interesting look at a slice of one of history's rumbles lost in the haze of one's own sorrows.

Brian, you really got this poem! You understood perfectly how the themes wove together. Indeed it is about personal sorrows in the context of history. I thank you very much for reading and your keen comment. They are much appreciated.

Those names were of far greater consequence a few years later, however. I hear it's a very good idea to remember history. The memory may be painful, but living through a modern repetition of it sounds like a terrible idea. Your write here is quite poignant, John.
